Gender-inclusive learning environment
Gender-inclusive learning environment
Building a gender-inclusive learning environment does not replace measures to combat gender discrimination but complements them. Indeed, blending inclusive learning environment with the fight against discrimination is necessary to challenge the gender system and other forms of inequality.
The first step in the construction of an inclusive learning environment consist in the identification of unequal situations in the education system. This is a challenging task because we have become so accustomed to unequal contexts that we no longer recognize them, such as the uneven distribution of speaking time (Collet, 2015) or the lack of diversity in teaching materials.
The second step in the construction of an inclusive learning environment is designing egalitarian educational resources, systems, and sequences to address the unequal situations identified in the first step.
